Some Info about San Jose

San Jose, California is located in the northern part of California in the Santa Clara Valley, 50 miles south of downtown San Francisco and is the county seat of Santa Clara County. It is the third largest community in California and seat of Santa Clara County.

In 1777, the settlement of San Jose was established by Spanish colonizers. Between 1849 and 1852, San Jose was the state capital once California became a territory of the United States in 1847. The year 1850 brought the incorporation of San Jose as a city state capital from 1849 to 1852 and was incorporated as a city. It was originally commercially developed as a supply base for gold prospectors and, in 1864, when the railroad connected it with San Francisco, it became the distribution point for agricultural products from the Santa Clara Valley.

As the result of the abundant supply of water, the Olhone Indians one inhabited the San Jose region. Pueblo de San Josi de Guadalupe was the name given to the settlement by the first Spanish explorers in 1777, in honor of St. Joseph and called it Pueblo de San Josi de Guadalupe. This was the first recorded community in what is currently known as California.

The pioneers were attracted to the region not only because that same water connected nearby cities that the Spanish government had planned, but also because the drinking water supply was close by. The region was also home, and still plays host to, much of the agriculture and farming that fed its residents.

Since the Spanish government scaled its plans for more people to settle in the region, the San Jose region grew rather slowly. It wasnt until the early 1840s that the Americans arrived and were attracted to the possibilities that the land offered.

The region grew rapidly once the word got out that the land was available and fertile. San Jose was declared the first capital of California in 1849 as the result of the rapid growth in the region over the years. Sometime later, Sacramento became the 48th state's capital.

The San Jose State University opened in 1871, and was one of the original schools in the region. Some of the other schools in the region are the close by the University of Santa Clara at Santa Clara and Stanford University.

San Jose is the home of many different attractions for resident and visitors alike. Some of the more interesting places to visit include the Historical Museum, Rosicrucian Park, the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden, Kelly Park, the Alum Rock Park, the San Jose Museum of Art, the Center for the Performing Arts, and the San Jose Convention Center.

San Jose has experienced a positive moving economy throughout the years that has moved to such advanced products as the materials used in high performance and space electronics from the original agriculture and farming environment. The community continues to play host to many food processing centers and canneries that continue to feed this nation, although the region is also home to several large manufacturing plants. San Jose has drawn an abundance of aerospace and electronic manufacturing companies, as a part of Silicon Valley. San Jose was named by Spanish colonizers as the Pueblo de San Josi de Guadalupe after the Guadalupe River, on which the community was located, and in honor of Saint Joseph. San Jose was the first community to be founded in California.

These days the community of San Jose continues to be the food processing and distribution in the surrounding fertile agricultural area, which produces seasonal grapes and fruits. There are over 50 wineries in the valley.

San Jose is the capital of Silicon Valley in Santa Clara County, which is the location of several high tech companies. The region is also one of the leading centers for medical research and treatment in the world. Transportable infant incubators, gene splicing, and heart transplants were all developed in San Jose.
